Illness Hampers Coldplay’s Scandinavian Outing

LONDON--Indie group Coldplay had to cancel its Scandinavian tour, which was scheduled to start on Thursday (9/14) in Stockholm, Sweden, due to guitarist Jon Buckland’s continuing poor health.

Buckland was first thought to have mononucleosis after he had to pull out of special post-Glastonbury Festival gig organized by Glastonbury promoter Michael Eavis. Instead of Coldplay playing at the Pilton Party, Eavis’ way of saying "thanks" to Pilton residents for hosting Glastonbury, singer Chris Martin had to play a solo set.

A spokesperson from the group’s label Parlophone told LiveDaily, "Jon is expected to make a full recovery before Coldplay start their U.K. tour on Oct. 2. In the meantime, the rest of the band will go to Scandinavia to do a few promotional appearances."

The foursome’s debut album "Parachutes" went straight to No. 1 on the U.K. album chart when it was released in July, and is expected to be released in the U.S. in November. The LP also earned them a Mercury Music Prize nomination this year; the award was given to Badly Drawn Boy on Tuesday (9/12).
