When you're born with four names, as Adele [ tickets ] Laurie Blue Adkins was, you can be forgiven for wanting to keep it simple and using just one.

20-year-old Adele, a native of North London, already has amassed multiple Grammy nominations. Naming Dusty Springfield, Billie Holiday and Etta James [ tickets ] as a few of the artists who have influenced her, the singer/songwriter defined her own sound as "heartbroken soul" in an interview with BC Magazine.

Her debut album, "19," featuring the breakaway single "Chasing
Pavements," reportedly has logged sales in excess of 1.2 million units internationally.
