Britney Spears hit with defamation suit

Britney Spears ' ex-manager Sam Lutfi filed a lawsuit against the pop star and her parents for defamation and breach of contract, according to People.com. Lutfi is also claiming libel, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The lawsuit alleges Spears' parents launched a campaign of lies and intimidation designed to destroy Lutfi and drive him out of the singer's life, People reported. The suit also is claiming that the smear campaign against Lutfi provided Spears' father with the opportunity he needed to obtain an appointment as her conservator. In the suit, Lutfi alleges Jamie and Lynne spears have continued their smear-campaign despite accomplishing their objectives.

Lutfi's claims stem from several incidents, including the publication of Lynne Spears' book, "Through the Storm," which he says damaged his reputation. "Since the publication of the book, Lutfi has been subjected to unfathomable amounts of ridicule and scorn" and has received "numerous death threats from overzealous fans," according to the People report. The legal papers also claim Lutfi can no longer find work as a counselor of at-risk teens.

Lutfi's breach of contract allegation states that he had an oral agreement with Britney in which he was to receive 15 percent of her earnings as her manager. He reportedly alleges the agreement was confirmed in a text message, but he has not received any payment for his "services."

He also is claiming that Jamie Spears punched him in the chest in Jan. 2008 and caused injury to his nervous system.

Last week, Jamie Spears obtained a new restraining order against Lutfi, accusing him of harassing his family. Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet, who are the pop star's co-conservators, allege that Lutfi and two other men are working together to disrupt the conservatorship with "utter disregard for Ms. Spears's health and well being," People reported.
