Ray Charles anthology set for spring
A 21-song anthology titled " Ray Charles - Genius: The Ultimate Ray Charles Collection" is slated to hit stores April 7, according to a press release.
The collection of hits, which is part of an extensive reissue program, features digitally remastered versions of recordings from the Atlantic and ABC-Paramount labels, including 1955's "I Got a Woman."
The set also features several No. 1 hits, including "Georgia on My Mind," "Hit the Road Jack," "I Can't Stop Loving You," "You Are My Sunshine," "I'm a Fool for You" and "Let's Go Get Stoned." The collection also features among its 21 tracks Charles' signature rendition of "America the Beautiful," and a cover of Paul McCartney's "Yesterday."
"Genius: The Ultimate Ray Charles Collection" will be digi-packed with a 24-page collectors' book of rare photos and notes by jazz writer Don Heckman.
Late last year, Concord Music Group announced it would develop Charles' post-1960 catalog, which contains his work for the ABC-Paramount and Tangerine labels. In addition to a series of CD reissues, beginning with "Genius," Concord will make the catalog available digitally for the first time.
