AFI plans June gig, album release

Rock outfit AFI has announced the impending release of its eighth studio album, as well the group's first performance of 2009.

"Crash Love," the follow-up to 2006's "Decemberunderground," will hit shelves later this year, though the actual release date has yet to be announced. In the meantime, the rock quartet will perform June 20 at Toronto's Edgefest. Tickets for that event go on sale this Saturday.

AFI unleashed a contest on MySpace last December, asking fans to submit two-minute videos chronicling their lives and what inspires them. Of the thousands of entries, a handful of winners selected by the band got the opportunity to contribute background vocals to the upcoming Interscope Records release.
