Phish to turn sold-out weekend into free downloads

A reunited Phish will provide fans worldwide a glimpse of their sold-out performances this weekend with free mp3 downloads.

After four years of downtime, the jam band will reunite for a sold-out, three-day gig March 6-8 at Hampton, VA's Hampton Coliseum. With the help of an on-site recording truck and professional mixers, each evening's set will be transferred into high-quality 256kps mp3s and posted to LivePhish.com within 24 hours as free downloads for a limited time. Fans can register at the website for email notice when the files are ready. CD quality FLAC files will also available, as well as custom 3-disc sets--all for a fee.

"We really wanted to show our gratitude to all the Phish fans for their support and the overwhelming response they've had to these shows," lead guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio said in a press release. "It's going to be an amazing celebration and we only wish everybody could be there."

Phish became the first group to record live performances and release them as mp3s the following day in 2002 with their New Year's Eve bash at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The reunited band will undergo a sold-out summer reunion tour, which kicks off with a two-night stand in Wantagh, NY, June 4-5 and finishes up in East Troy, WI, June 21.
