Heart receives ASCAP honor

Heart 's Ann and Nancy Wilson will be honored with the ASCAP Founders Award during the organization's 26th Annual Pop Music Awards April 22 at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.

"Ann and Nancy Wilson have made an indelible mark on rock music history," ASCAP President and Chairman Marilyn Bergman said in a statement. "Their success and influence helped pave the way for other female artists, and they continue to build their musical legacy with an artistic energy that remains as strong today as when they first started out over 35 years ago."

The ASCAP Founders Award is presented to songwriters who have made pioneering contributions to music by inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators, according to a press release. Past recipients include Elvis Costello, Billy Joel, Annie Lennox, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, among others.

ASCAP also will honor the songwriters and publishers of the association's most performed pop songs of 2008 during the awards ceremony.
