The Wallflowers to join the Who at Madison Square Garden

update: The Wallflowers have been chosen to replace Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes in the Who's four-night stand at New York's Madison Square Garden on Oct. 3, 4, 6 and 7, the final dates of the British group's U.S. tour.

Page and the Crowes were forced to cancel their remaining U.S. dates and upcoming European tour because of Page's persistent back problems. Fans who aren’t happy with the revamped bill can obtain refunds from ticket purchase points until Oct. 3, according to a venue spokesperson.

The timing couldn't be better for the Wallflowers, whose third album "Breach" hits the stores on Oct. 10. "Sleepwalker," the first single from the album, is currently getting radio airplay.

The Wallflowers are scheduled to appear on "Jimmy & Doug's Farmclub" (USA Network) on Oct. 9 and on "Saturday Night Live" on Oct. 21. Although the Wallflowers' official website lists some East Coast club dates before and after the Who shows, a band spokesperson told liveDaily that the dates have not been confirmed.

Following the Garden dates, the Who will head back home for a string of U.K. shows beginning on Oct. 30. In the meantime, live recordings of two solo concerts of guitarist Pete Townshend go on sale today (9/18) exclusively through his e-commerce website: Townshend's "Lifehouse" show at London's Sadler's Wells Theatre last February and his 1998 show at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. Both recordings are double CDs. These will be followed later this year by a 1996 solo show at the Fillmore in San Francisco.
