Loggins & Messina construct another reunion outing

Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina will continue a reunion they began four years ago with another round of comeback shows later this year.

The '70s acoustic singer/songwriter duo have started to assemble dates for a fall trek, which currently shows seven dates, kicking off Aug. 20 in Hyannis, MA, and running through a Sept. 24 appearance in Durham, NC. The current itinerary is included below.

The duo's 2005 tour represented their first joint outing since 1976. The pair recorded a series of successful albums together in the seventies, scoring hits with "Danny's Song" and "Your Mama Don't Dance," among other singles, but split before the end of that decade.

Before they set out on the road together in 2005, Columbia/Legacy issued "The Best: Loggins & Messina Sittin' in Again." The set houses hits from the duo such as "Your Mama Don't Dance," "Danny's Song" and "Angry Eyes." Later that year, Rhino released a live album documenting one of the duo's early reunion shows from that tour. "Live: Sittin' In Again at the Santa Barbara Bowl" features 13 songs, and was recorded at the outdoor California venue.

The pair's final pre-breakup studio album together is the 1976 release "Native Sons." Kenny Loggins went on to score numerous hits in the '80s and '90s as a solo artist, including iconic smashes from the soundtracks to "Top Gun" and "Footloose," while Messina largely drifted away from the spotlight, and has kept busy in recent years as a successful songwriting coach.
