Beasties-Rage tour canceled

The Beastie Boys -Rage Against the Machine Rhyme & Reason 2000 tour--which was postponed in July after Beastie Boy Mike D. injured his shoulder--has been canceled, according to the Beastie Boys’ official website. Refunds are being offered, the site said.

“All efforts were made to re-schedule the tour but were ultimately unsuccessful due to a confluence of prior commitments, holds, scheduling, the venues in question and numerous other factors,” reads a statement on the Beastie’s official website. “Beastie Boys express profound apologies to all artists, personnel and, most of all, fans who had been looking forward to the tour.”

The Rhyme & Reason 2000 tour--which was to feature Stone Temple Pilots , Busta Rhymes and No Doubt in supporting slots--was originally scheduled to begin on Aug. 2 in Toronto, and was set to run until Sept. 12. The tour was indefinitely postponed in late July when Mike D.--a.k.a. Mike Diamond--severely injured his shoulder. The injury required surgery and an extended recovery period.

No word on Diamond’s condition or the Beastie Boys ’ future touring plans was available at press time.

The release of Beastie Boys’ 2-CD DVD anthology, originally set for Oct. 12, has been pushed back to Nov. 7, according to the group’s site.

Rage Against the Machine, meanwhile, played two shows in Los Angeles last week that were taped for an upcoming live album, which is expected to be released before the end of this year. The band is currently in the studio working on several cover songs that will be included with the live release, according to a spokesperson for the group.
