Charts: LL Cool J takes No. 1 away from Nelly
LL Cool J 's latest release "G.O.A.T. (The Greatest of All Time)" grabs the top spot this week, according to Def Jam, ending Nelly 's five-week run at No. 1 with "Country Grammar." The chart-topping debut from LL was accompanied by new Top 10 entries from Boyz II Men and Barenaked Ladies , all of which created some movement in a group of albums that had remained fairly stagnant in recent weeks.
"G.O.A.T."--the follow-up to 1997's "Phenomenon"--sold 208,000 copies in its first week out, according to Def Jam--enough to push "Country Grammar" down to the No. 2 spot. Nelly passes the favor on by shoving Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" down a rung to No. 3.
Behind Eminem is a No. 4 debut from Boyz II Men, who last week released "Nathan, Michael, Shawn, Wanya." That album is followed by "Maroon," the No. 5 debut and latest release from Barenaked Ladies. "Maroon" is the follow-up to the group's 1998 multi-platinum album "Stunt," which featured the hit "One Week."
Creed's "Human Clay" drops from No. 4 to No. 6 this week, while Britney Spears' "Oops! ... I Did It Again" slides from No. 3 to No. 7. Also hopping down a few steps is fellow teen sensation 'N Sync, whose "No Strings Attached" moves from No. 5 to No. 8.
The new blood in the Top 10 also pushes 3 Doors Down's "Better Life" to No. 9 from No. 7, and the "NOW That's What I Call Music Vol. 4" compilation lands at No. 10.
Getting shoved out of the Top 10 is Papa Roach, whose "Infest" album is bumped from No. 8 last week to No. 11 this week. Also leaving the Top 10 lineup is DJ Clue's "Backstage Mixtape," which debuted at No. 6 two weeks ago, paused on its way out the door at No. 10 last week and now sits at No. 18.
