George Jones stays busy on the road
Country icon George Jones continues to work at a breakneck pace on the road, lining his 2009 with enough live dates to keep him busy throughout most of the year.
The Country Music Hall of Famer shows close to 50 shows on his current calendar, which runs through late November and continues later this week with a March 27 appearance in Wheeling, WV. The 77-year-old singer continues to headline around 100 shows annually.
Upcoming dates on Jones's schedule include shows in Atlanta; Kansas City, MO; and Myrtle Beach, SC, along with a June 14 appearance at Nashville, TN's Grand Ole Opry, where Jones is celebrating his 40th year as a member of the venerable country music institution and radio program. Full details on Jones's current schedule are included below.
The performer's latest album, "Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets," surfaced last August. The tracks on the set range from a mid-'70s recording with Jones' late ex-wife, Tammy Wynette, to a 2007 recording with the couple's daughter, Georgette.
Other duet partners on the record include Keith Richards, Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Ricky Skaggs, Mark Knopfler, Marty Stuart, Leon Russell, Mark Chesnutt, Shelby Lynne, and Tavern Choir with Jim Lauderdale.
Jones has sustained a music career for more than 50 years and is constantly referred to as the greatest country singer of all time. The two-time Grammy winner has upwards of 1,000 songs under his belt and has charted 166 singles--more than any other artist in any music format, according to his bio.
