The Shins set spring tour plans
Indie-rockers The Shins will hit the road later this spring for a headlining outing that spans both coasts and includes shows in nightclubs and small theaters.
The Portland, OR-based group kicks off the outing May 2 in Bellingham, WA. The 12-city run moves to the opposite coast beginning with a May 13 show in Richmond, VA, and wraps up May 18 in New York City. Details are below.
The Shins continue to tour behind 2007's "Wincing the Night Away," their third studio album and the long-awaited follow-up to 2003's "Chutes Too Narrow." The set debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling about 100,000 copies during its first week on store shelves.
The band's first three albums, including 2001's "Oh, Inverted World," have sold around 1.5 million copies in the US, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Several songs from the set are currently streaming at the band's MySpace page.
Last year, the band announced it would release its next album through frontman James Mercer's own Aural Apothecary label rather than continue releasing new records through Sub Pop, which has issued the group's first three albums.
"The deal will be more of a [pressing and distribution] deal than a traditional record deal," Shins manager Ian Montone told Billboard.com last summer. "That partner could very well remain Sub Pop, who have done a remarkable job with the band and have a great staff of people who really love music. It could be a digital partner with respect to other rights. All of this is being determined. The first goal is to make the record and see where that takes us."
