Green Day fans to have 'Breakdown' this spring

"21st Century Breakdown," Green Day 's follow-up to 2004's "American Idiot," will land in stores May 15, the pop-punk trio has revealed.

The forthcoming set is divided into three acts: "Heroes and Cons," "Charlatans and Saints" and "Horseshoes and Handgrenades," and follows a young couple, Christian and Gloria, through the "mess and promise of the century so far," according to a press release from the band's label, Reprise Records.

Singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool, who began work on "21st Century Breakdown" in early 2006, are currently putting the finishing touches on the set with producer Butch Vig (Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins).

"Know Your Enemy," the first single from "21st Century Breakdown," will hit radio airwaves and online retailers next month, according to Reprise.
