Art Brut casts 'Satan' out on summer trek

Eccentric indie-rockers Art Brut have mapped early summer US dates in support of the group's new studio album, "Art Brut Vs. Satan," which is set to drop May 12.

The British group will travel to a relatively small number of cities during the trek, but will play multiple nights in several locations, including five-night engagements in New York (6/1-5) and Chicago (6/8-12), along with four nights in Los Angeles (6/16-19) split up between two different clubs. Other stops on the itinerary include Philadelphia, Seattle and San Francisco. Dates are below.

The group enlisted Black Francis of The Pixies to produce "Art Brut Vs. Satan," the band's third studio album and the follow-up to 2007's "It's a Bit Complicated."

"We recorded 'Art Brut Vs. Satan' over the course of 10 days in Salem, Oregon, with the inimitable Black Francis at the helm," frontman Eddie Argos told Drownedinsound.com earlier this month. "We'd known for a while we wanted to record the album in one take or 'on the fly' so we were delighted when Black Francis agreed to work with us. He is, after all, the expert in the field.

"We turned up, he pressed record. We jumped around a bit and recorded our songs whilst he conducted us and gave knowing advice. Job done."

The album's first single, "Alcoholics Unanimous," is due out April 6. The song's official video is currently linked at the band's website.

"This was one of the first songs we wrote for the album and while writing it I remembered what fun it is that I can make the backing vocals say whatever I like," Argos added. "I think there are quite a lot of backing vocals on this album for that reason."
