The Prodigy launches 'Invaders' on US trek

Electronic music trio The Prodigy returns to the US this spring for a slate of headlining shows to support the group's recent release, "Invaders Must Die."

The British technopunk outfit will launch the outing May 18 in Washington, DC. Nine shows are currently planned for the jaunt, which is set to wind down May 30 in Los Angeles. Dates are below.

The group is supporting its fifth studio album, "Invaders Must Die," which surfaced earlier this month. The set, the band's first since 2004's "Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned," debuted at No. 1 on the UK charts, boasting sales of more than 97,000 copies during its first week. In the US, the album opened at No. 3 on Billboard's Independent Album chart.

The record features collaborations with Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, who plays drums on the track "Run With the Wolves," and James Rushent of UK alt-rockers Does It Offend You, Yeah?, who lends a production hand on a pair of tunes.

"'Invaders Must Die' is the product of the last seven turbulent years of the band, we really fought for it, this is about the three of us again, a band record we can take live," group founder Liam Howlett said in a statement. "The name is a reference to being got at on the last album. People could see a way in, chinks in the armor. They thought 'This band is so tight and can't be infiltrated' and it was like David and Goliath.

"The people that tried to get in were the invaders. Everyone else is the enemy."
