Everlast to open for Santana through October
Everlast will serve as the show opener on the upcoming leg of Santana ’s North American tour, according to Tommy Boy Records. The hip-hop artist’s new album “Eat at Whitey’s” is set to hit stores on Oct. 17.
Everlast's run with the Grammy award-winning guitarist begins on Sept. 28 in Colorado, followed by a Sept. 30 stop in Kansas. Dates are then scheduled from Oct. 1 through Oct. 26, including two-night stands in Houston on Oct. 6-7, Los Angeles on Oct. 14-15 and Mountain View, Calif., on Oct. 20-21. In addition to his opening set each night, Everlast will join Santana onstage during the tour, according to a RollingStone.com report.
“Eat at Whitey’s” is the follow-up to Everlast ’s 1998 multi-platinum disc “Whitey Ford Sings the Blues.” “Black Jesus,” the first single from the new album, hit radio stations on Sept. 12. Several guest artists appear on the new disc, including Cypress Hill frontman B-Real, and Carlos Santana .
Santana and Everlast first collaborated on the track “Put Your Lights On,” featured on Santana’s hugely successful 1999 album “Supernatural.” Earlier this year, the song won the Grammy award for Rock Duo/Group w/Vocal.
According to interview footage featured on Tommy Boy Records’ Everlast website, the artist may be participating in a reunion with his former rap group House of Pain. Everlast explains during the interview that one of the reasons the majority of the songs on the forthcoming “Eat at Whitey’s” feature his singing rather than rapping is that he is saving his rap chops for the potential reunion.
Everlast formed House of Pain with friend and fellow rapper Danny Boy and disc jockey DJ Lethal in the early ‘90s. The group’s self-titled 1992 album spawned “Jump Around,” the most successful hit of the outfit’s career. Two albums followed, each less successful than its predecessor. The trio disbanded in 1996, and Everlast launched his solo career, while DJ Lethal found success as a member of Limp Bizkit.
