The Avett Brothers map dates ahead of new album
Folk/bluegrass/rock hybrid act The Avett Brothers will launch a lengthy headlining tour in May following a slate of shows this month opening for the Dave Matthews Band.
The North Carolina-based trio--which features brothers Seth Avett and Scott Avett on guitar and banjo, respectively, along with Bob Crawford on standup bass --will use the DMB support dates to work out material from the group's forthcoming major-label debut in front of live audiences, starting with an April 22 show in Raleigh, NC.
The headlining portion of the trek kicks off May 7 in Tucson, AZ, with dates lined up through late July on a tour that is scheduled to roll through 30 cities. Details are below.
The tour will find the band supporting its first major-label release. Titled "I and You and Love," and produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, the set is due to surface sometime in July on Columbia Records.
Rubin--who signed the band to the record label--and the group worked on the album in Malibu, CA, and Asheville, NC. "They transcend the genres they're coming from," the producer told Rolling Stone magazine in March.
In late 2008, the Avetts released "The Second Gleam" EP, which debuted at No. 82 on The Billboard 200 album chart. The band's most recent full-length album was 2007's "Emotionalism," which debuted at No.1 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers Albums chart and No. 134 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
