Elvis Costello adds to 'Secret' tour
Elvis Costello has added a couple major-market stops to his light summer schedule, all in support of his new album, "Secret, Profane & Sugarcane."
The outing will begin May 2 with a stop at Memphis' Beale Street Festival and continue with gigs scheduled at the Bonnaroo Music Festival June 13 and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival June 19. Performances at New York's Beacon Theatre (6/10) and Nashville's Ryman Auditorium (6/16) are also on the itinerary. Details are below.
Recorded over three days at Nashville's Sound Emporium Studio, Costello's latest album, will hit shelves June 2, marking the musician's 25th studio effort to date. Participating Starbucks locations in the US and Canada will sell the album, as well as traditional music retailers.
The legendary T Bone Burnett not only produced the 13-track record, but also co-wrote two songs, "Sulphur to Sugarcane" and "The Crooked Line," the latter of which features guest vocalists Jim Lauderdale and Emmylou Harris. Costello also collaborated with Loretta Lynn for the second time in his career on "I Felt The Chill."
The Grammy-winning Costello will tour with the musicians who backed him in the studio for the new album. Dubbed The Sugarcanes, the lineup includes Jerry Douglas on dobro, Stuart Duncan on fiddle, Mike Compton on mandolin, Jeff Taylor on accordion and Dennis Crouch on double bass.
Costello also has another impending release planned. In honor of Record Store Day April 18, Costello will unveil a 7" vinyl single of "Complicated Shadows" bundled with "Dirty Rotten Shame," available at participating independent music stores.
Born to a British bandleader, the prolific artist launched his own music career back in 1977 with his debut album, "My Aim Is True." His extensive discography transcends genres, and includes a handful of albums recorded under his own name, as well as albums accompanied by The Attractions and The Imposters. His most recent album, last year's "Momofuku," spent three weeks on The Billboard 200 chart.
In addition to his music career, Costello also has "television host" on his entertainment resume. The musician teamed up with Elton John to create "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ...," a series featuring in-depth interviews and intimate performances with a range of musicians. The show airs on the Sundance Channel in the US, CTV in Canada and Channel 4 in the UK.
