Bob Schneider heads out on 'Tarantula' run

Singer/songwriter Bob Schneider will hit the US tour trail this spring in support of his upcoming album, "Tarantula."

The scattered 23-city outing gets underway Friday night (4/3) with a New York City show. The two-month jaunt is currently slated to wrap up June 19 in Annapolis, MD. Two-night runs in Seattle (5/13-14) and Chicago (6/12-13) are also on the schedule. The full itinerary is below.

One date on Schneider's tour agenda--the April 16 gig in Austin, TX--will be more than a traditional concert. The hometown stop at Stubb's for the 5th Annual Crawfish Boil will benefit the Busby Foundation, an organization that provides assistance to Central Texans suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.

The award-winning musician is touring in anticipation "Tarantula," though the exact release date remains unannounced. The new album will feature the first studio recordings of "Tarantula" and "Bombananza," two fan favorites from his live shows that have been around for more than a decade. The album's first single, "40 Dogs (Romeo & Juliet)," is streaming at the Austin-based musician's MySpace page.

Schneider, a prolific performer on the Austin music scene, dropped out of the University of Texas in the early '90s to front a handful of bands, including Joe Rockhead, Ugly Americans, The Scabs and Lonelyland. His hard work paid off, as the multi-instrumentalist recently took home three Austin Music Awards at the South by Southwest Music Conference in mid-March, including Band of the Year and Best Male Vocals. The new honors bring the charismatic frontman's local award tally to 30 over the course of his roughly 20-year career.

Schneider usually has several creative irons in the fire at any one time. The Texas rocker, who spent much of 2008 on the road behind his most recent full-length effort, 2007's "When the Sun Breaks Down on the Moon," released an iTunes exclusive EP entitled "Love is Everywhere" just in time for Valentine's Day this year. He also dabbles in visual arts, currently exhibiting intricate etchings at the Austin gallery Flatbed Press through April 18. A live DVD entitled "Live at the Paramount Theatre" is in the pipeline as well, and should surface in the near future, according to his website.
