Paolo Nutini brings 'Sunny Side' to West Coast
Paolo Nutini and his backing band The Vipers will inundate the West Coast with a handful of April shows ahead of his forthcoming second album, "Sunny Side Up."
The spring trek will hit seven cities in eight days throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, beginning with an April 18 stop at Indio, CA's Coachella Festival and a free show at San Diego's Del Mar Plaza April 19. The short jaunt currently finishes up April 26 in Seattle; Atlantic Records labelmate Serena Ryder will open the shows. The full itinerary is below.
Produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams), "Sunny Side Up" will hit store shelves and digital retailers June 2. The record's first single, "Candy," is expected to arrive at radio stations later this month, according to a press release.
The upcoming studio effort follows Nutini's successful 2007 debut, "These Streets," which spawned two Top 40 hits on this side of the pond--"Last Request" and "New Shoes"--and four in his native UK and came in at No. 97 on Billboard's 2007 list of European Top 100 Albums.
Philanthropically, Nutini recently contributed a cover of the Rolling Stones classic "Gimme Shelter" to a short film about the refugee camps in the Democratic Republic of Congo benefiting the UN Refugee Agency's emergency humanitarian efforts. The video, laced with Nutini's vocals behind war-torn images shot by famed cinematographer John Toll, can be seen at the Scottish singer/songwriter's MySpace page.
