Gogol Bordello plots spring and summer travels

Gypsy-punk collective Gogol Bordello has mapped dates for a second leg of headling dates that will keep the band on the road through the middle of summer.

The nine-member New York brigade kicks off the spring leg of its 2009 trek May 20 in Ventura, CA. After heading overseas for a stretch of European shows in June, the band returns to the US for another round of shows in July. The road trip is capped off with an Aug. 1 appearance at New Jersey's All Points West Festival. Dates are below.

The band's international schedule can be found at Gogol Bordello's official website.

The group continues to support its latest studio effort, 2007's "Super Taranta!," which hit No. 15 on Billboard's Top Independent albums chart, and also came in at No. 14 on Rolling Stone's "Top 50 Albums of 2007" list, with the tune "Ultimate" making it into the magazine's "100 Best Songs of 2007."

Gogol Bordello was brought together by musician/actor Eugene Hutz, who escaped the Chernobyl meltdown and endured a seven-year trek through Eastern Europe refugee camps. During that time, he learned about his gypsy culture, which turned out to be his biggest musical influence.

In New York City's melting pot, Hutz found other refugees who share his love of international punk rock, including Russian fiddler Sergey Rjabtzev, Russian accordion player Yuri Lemeshev and Israeli guitarist Oren Kaplan.

The band has released four studio albums, including a pair of double LPs, 2002's "Multi Kontra Culti vs. Irony" and 2005's "Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike." The group's debut album, "Voi-La Intruder," surfaced in 1999.
