Jimmy Herring sets out on inaugural solo run
Widespread Panic guitarist Jimmy Herring will take a break from the group to launch his first-ever solo tour of the US this spring, alongside a hand-picked backing band of all-star musicians.
The 13-city jaunt kicks off April 24 in Greensville, SC, making its way to clubs and theaters throughout the South before heading west. Several Colorado stops are planned before the trek's final performance June 21 in Solano Beach, CA. The full itinerary is below.
Herring, who joined the Panic crew in 2007 following the death of former guitarist Michael Houser, has tapped drummer Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit), saxophonist Greg Osby, keyboardist Scott Kinsey (Tribal Tech) and bassist Oteil Burbridge for the outing.
"It's a shot of adrenaline to get to play with musicians who are pushing the envelope and breaking down the walls that exist between genres of music," Herring said in a press release. "Each of these musicians inspires with every note they play."
The group will perform songs from Herring's 2008 solo effort, "Lifeboat," as well as material from each of the musicians' catalogs.
Herring's solo agenda does not currently coincide with Widespread Panic's spring tour schedule, which has the jam band playing three weekends: April 13-15 in Orlando; April 17-19 in Orange Beach, AL; and July 22 and 24 in Detroit Lakes, MN.
