Aerosmith, ZZ Top plan US summer outing
The summer itinerary is expected to fill out significantly in the coming weeks as more dates are announced, according to a press release.
Earlier this month, Aerosmith revealed the postponement of the group's long-awaited new album due to health issues and tour commitments; the new record is currently slated for release later this year.
Guitarist Joe Perry told Rolling Stone magazine recently that the group has been working on a follow-up to 2001's "Just Push Play" for the past few years and was hoping to finish before the tour gets underway. He explained that his unexpected surgery to clear up an infection stemming from his knee replacement earlier this year caused part of the hold-up, along with frontman Steven Tyler's bout of pneumonia.
"The time we had allotted to make this record, we couldn't do it. But it's a work in progress and we're gonna shoot for it when we finish with this tour," Perry told Rolling Stone.
Along with the upcoming Aerosmith album, Perry is also working on his next solo record, a follow-up to his 2005 studio effort, which earned him a Grammy nomination.
ZZ Top will join up with Aerosmith after a month-long trek through Europe, including a headlining gig at England's Download Festival. The rock icons penned a deal with producer Rick Rubin last summer and are working on a new album, according to the band's website.
