'South Park' inspires Kayne West to put ego in check

Kayne West, who told the press last year that he was the "voice of this generation," said he now realizes he needs to "get past" himself, according to a recent blog entry. West's decision to change his attitude apparently was in response to a recent "South Park" episode (4/8) that lampooned the famously self-important rapper's ego.

The Comedy Central show painted West as a narcissistic figure so out of touch with reality he couldn't even take a joke. In the episode, the characters write a joke that becomes so popular that everyone in the country, including talk show hosts, begin repeating it. But when West hears the joke--"Do you like fishsticks; you must be a gay fish"--he doesn't get it. The cartoon version of West is determined to find out why everyone keeps saying he is a gay fish.

In all-caps, West wrote on his blog: "SOUTH PARK MURDERED ME LAST NIGHT AND IT'S PRETTY FUNNY. IT HURTS MY FEELINGS BUT WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM SOUTH PARK! I ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON MY EGO THOUGH. HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER."

In the post, the performer said that people won't take him seriously if he doesn't change. "I JUST WANT TO BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM," he wrote.

"AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF S--- WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I'M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I'M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE."

West said he initially inflated his ego to build up his esteem when nobody believed in him. He goes on to thank the writers at "South Park," saying he is sure they are really nice people in real life.
