Phil Vassar, Boston Pops together for transplant awareness

Phil Vassar and the Boston Pops, with John Williams conducting, will perform May 30 at Boston's Symphony Hall for "Share the Beat," an evening of music and personal stories to benefit organ-donation awareness and transplant research, according to a press release.

The event, presented by the American Society of Transplantation, also will feature a special guest appearance by James Redford, who founded "Share the Beat." Redford, son of filmmaker Robert Redford, received a liver transplant in 1993 after suffering complications from ulcerative colitis.

Tickets for the show are available at the official "Share the Beat" website. Proceeds will benefit the AST endowment, created to support in perpetuity the organization's research-grant portfolio, the training of transplant fellows and consensus conferences, and the Redford AnimAction Project, an educational outreach program for youth.

AST comprises more than 2,800 transplant physicians, surgeons, scientist and allied health professionals dedicated to research, education, advocacy and patient care in transplantation science and medicine.
