Plus: Wilco , As I Lay Dying , more
Britney Spears
"Britney: For the Record"
(Jive)
In the fall of 2008, MTV debuted "Britney: For the Record," a documentary that gave viewers a personal look at the then-troubled pop princess. Now available on store shelves, the 63-minute film goes one-on-one with Spears, who explains some of her unpredictable behavior and offers an inside view of her celebrity status. The disc also includes six mp3 remixes of "Circus" and "Womanizer," two hits from her most recent album, "Circus."
The Who
"Maximum R&B Live: Deluxe Limited Edition"
(Geffen/UME)
The 1994 release "The Who-Thirty Years of Maximum R&B Live," featuring performance footage of The Who's original lineup--Roger Daltry, Pete Townsend, Keith Moon and John Entwistle--returned to retailers April 14 as part of an expanded, limited-edition set. Along with the 150-minutes of footage contained on the original version, a previously unreleased 90-minute concert from 1981 is included in the new edition, as well as interview footage, an expanded booklet with updated liner notes, and snippets of other performances dating back to the late 1960s.
Barbra Streisand
"Streisand: The Concerts"
(Hip-O)
Legendary songstress Barbra Streisand will unveil a three-disc DVD package April 28 entitled "The Concerts," featuring a sweeping collection of content culled from her career spanning a half-century. A Ft. Lauderdale performance from her record-breaking 2006 North American tour--including nine songs she had never before performed in concert, and a special guest appearance by Il Divo--makes up Disc 1; a 1993 concert at Anaheim, CA's Arrowhead Pond--during the singer's first concert tour in 28 years--falls on Disc 2; and Disc 3, entitled "Putting It Together: The Making of the Broadway Album," is comprised of vintage footage from the '60s and '70s, clips from Streisand's childhood, and behind-the-scenes footage from 1985's "The Broadway Album."
Wilco
"Ashes of American Flags: Wilco"
(Nonesuch)
Former Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty and Christoph Green captured Wilco's 2008 tour on HD cameras, turning the footage into an 88-minute DVD that hits shelves April 28. Beginning at Tulsa, OK's Cain's Ballroom and finishing up at Washington, DC's 9:30 Club, the film incorporates live performances from the trek with tour-bus antics and insightful comments from band members on the road. The group's first concert DVD comes just as the Chicago band finishes up its forthcoming, still-unnamed album, which is currently slated for a late June release.
As I Lay Dying
"This Is Who We Are"
(Metal Blade)
San Diego metalcore act As I Lay Dying has released a three-disc set that brings several recent concert performances to home audiences. "This Is Who We Are" documents the band's history on one disc, and features music videos and live appearances on the remaining two discs. Seven songs from the band's November 2008 show at Anaheim, CA's The Grove accompany five tracks from various festival stops worldwide during the past two years, including the single "I Never Wanted" from an October 2007 appearance in Japan.
