More than 40 bands played on Day 1 of this year's Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The big draw cards included Paul McCartney , Leonard Cohen and Morrissey .
Artists of a younger generation included; Franz Ferdinand , Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band, The Black Keys , M Ward, Silversun Pickups , Ting Tings, dj Felix Da Housecat and the new British buzz band White Lies .
