Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp adds more celebrity counselors
Members of Foo Fighters , The Wallflowers , Chicago and Vixen have been added to the list of counselors for this year's Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp, according to a press release. Keyboardist Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters), original Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine and Vixen bassist Share Ross join previously announced special guest artists Steven Tyler , Duff McKagan and Todd Rundgren .
Steve Lukather (Toto), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Alan White (Yes), Elliot Easton (The Cars), and Grammy award-winning producer Mark Hudson also are among the artists stepping up to fill one of the 20 rock-star counselor posts at the Fantasy Camp, which runs April 29-May 3 in Hollywood, CA.
"I've not done anything like this before," Tyler recently told Billboard.com. "I think they'll find it very interesting when I tell them that it's not really necessarily about practicing and hitting all your notes. I think it's all about finding a passion, a way of singing something in a way that nobody has ever done it before."
This year's camp kicks off April 29 with an opening night bash at the Gibson Guitar Showroom in Beverly Hills. Campers then will be divided into separate bands, each guided by a rock-star counselor, and spend the days writing and rehearsing.
Nights at the camp will be filled with jam sessions and master classes.
Camp culminates with each band recording its own original song at the historic Capitol Studios in Hollywood and performing at the Whisky A Go Go.
The best song of the evening will be played by DJ Mancow on his nationally syndicated radio show.
Celebrity chef Guy Fieri will join the activities by preparing a special barbecue for the campers and taking the stage to emcee the closing-night concert. The concert also will feature a charity auction of autographed memorabilia from Tyler and the other participating rock stars, proceeds from which will benefit The MusiCares Foundation.
There are a limited number of spots still available for the upcoming session, and tickets also are being sold for the May 3 show at the Whisky A Go Go. For additional information, visit the official Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp website.
Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp was launched in 1997. Previous camp counselors have included Slash, Roger Daltrey, Brian Wilson and Bill Wyman. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were featured in a special Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp episode of "The Simpsons."
