Sammy Hagar unveils Cabo Wabo Birthday Bash tourdates
Sammy Hagar has announced the dates for the first leg of a headlining U.S. tour in support of his forthcoming album “Ten 13,” according to his record label. The tour is scheduled to kick off in Connecticut on Halloween, one week after the Oct. 24 release of the new disc.
Tickets for the tour will go on-sale on Friday (9/29) and Saturday (9/30), according to Beyond Records.
Following the Oct. 31 tour start, Hagar and his band the Waboritas will spend November covering the U.S., ultimately winding up in the Pacific Northwest by month’s end. Stops on Dec. 1-3 in California are also scheduled, with additional dates to come, according to the label.
As it did with his previous tour, the stage set for Hagar’s upcoming tour will recreate the interior of his Cabo Wabo Cantina, the nightclub that he opened in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in 1990 with members of his former band Van Halen. (Hagar is now the nightclub's sole owner.) Hagar plans to fill the set with fans, and have drinks made with his own Cabo Wabo-brand tequila served to them during the performance.
Prior to the start of the tour--dubbed the Cabo Wabo Birthday Bash tour--Hagar has three performances scheduled at the Cabo Wabo Cantina. He performs there each October to mark his Oct. 13--“Ten 13”--birthday. This year’s shows will take place on Oct. 10, 13 and 14, according to his official website.
“Ten 13” will mark Hagar’s first release on his own Cabo Wabo record label, an imprint he recently established with Beyond Records. The disc is his third since parting ways with Van Halen, whose remaining members had claimed at one point that the musician’s poor work-ethic had contributed to their 1996 split with him.
“Serious JUJU,” the first track from “Ten 13,” recently began airing on radio stations, and entered trade publication Radio & Records’ national-airplay rock chart at No. 21 last week. The track is currently the third most-requested song on rock radio, according to Beyond Records.
