Fleet Foxes line up summer dates

Indie folk-pop group Fleet Foxes will head out on the road this summer for a quick tour that includes appearances at a few outdoor festivals.

The Seattle-based five-piece, which played Indio, CA's Coachella Festival last month, kicks off the summer outing July 29 in Washington, DC. After appearances at the July 31 All Points West Festival in Jersey City, NJ, and the Aug. 1 Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI, the band will play a few additional headlining shows before tackling an Aug. 7 slot at Chicago's Lollapalooza. Details are included below.

The band's self-titled debut album from last year garnered enormous word-of-mouth attention, helping it to top out at No. 36 on The Billboard 200 chart and sell more than 100,000 copies in the UK, where it became the first gold-certified record ever released by the band's British label, Bella Union. The album also sold more than 200,000 copies in the US, according to Nielsen Soundscan.

The group's 2008 output included the "Sun Giant" EP, which surfaced in April and features songs recorded after those found on the band's debut, which was released in June. Both the EP and album were produced by notable indie studio presence Phil Ek (The Shins, Built to Spill).

After rumors circulated earlier this year that the band was on the verge of signing a record deal with Virgin, Foxes frontman Robin Pecknold decided to personally put the matter to rest. "Fleet Foxes will never, ever, under no circumstances, from now until the world chokes on gas fumes, sign to a major label," Pecknold wrote on the band's MySpace page in February.
