Stevie Wonder helps kick off Montreal Jazz Festival

Stevie Wonder will give a free outdoor concert on the opening night of this year's Festival International de Jazz de Montreal--a.k.a. the Montreal Jazz Festival--the 30th edition of which is set to get underway late next month.

The legendary Motown artist's June 30 concert will also be the inaugural performance at the Place des Festival, a new plaza that a press release describes as part of a still-under-construction public space that "will likewise ensure the future of the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal."

Wonder's performance--which will also be viewable on giant screens that will be deployed on other stages throughout the festival site--is one of a number of free outdoor concerts set to take place during the multi-day festival; details for additional free outdoor concerts and activities will be announced June 8, according to organizers.

Meanwhile, a list of more than 150 artists have been confirmed for indoor concerts as part of the festival, including Jeff Beck, Harlem Gospel Choir, Buddy Guy, Mos Def, Pink Martini, The Dears, The Orb, Burning Spear and Toots & The Maytals. A complete list of confirmed acts is available at the festival's website, as is ticketing information.

Set to run from June 30 to July 12, the 30th annual Montreal Jazz Festival is expected to comprise more than 650 concerts over the course of the event, according to organizers.
