Wallflowers confirm handful of U.S. club dates
The Wallflowers have announced a brief, headlining club tour that opens the night before their upcoming opening stint for the Who at Madison Square Garden, according to the group’s publicist. The October and November dates will help launch the band’s new album “Breach,” which hits stores on Oct. 10.
On Oct. 2, the Wallflowers will kick off their road trip at the Roxy in Atlanta. The gig will serve as a warm-up for the band’s subsequent four performances at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 3-4 and Oct. 6-7. The group was tapped to open for the Who earlier this month after Jimmy Page’s back problems forced him and the Black Crowes to cancel their tour, including opening for the Who.
Following the four-night run in New York, the Wallflowers will head to Boston on Oct. 9, Toronto on Oct. 10 and Chicago on Oct. 12. A Nov. 9 show in San Diego is also scheduled.
In addition to the upcoming tour, the Wallflowers have a number of promotional appearances scheduled to help launch the new album, according to the group’s official website. They will be featured on the Oct. 9 episode of "Jimmy & Doug’s Farmclub," which airs on the USA Network. Also on that date, the band is scheduled to participate in an online chat hosted by America Online. On Oct. 21, meanwhile, the group is booked to perform on "Saturday Night Live."
“Breach,” the Wallflower’s third album, is the group’s first release in about four years. Its predecessor, 1996’s “Bringing Down the Horse,” sold over 4 million copies. “Sleepwalker,” the first single from “Breach,” is currently No. 5 on industry trade publication Radio & Records’ adult alternative chart, which measures national radio airplay.
