Depeche Mode cancels Greek show
Depeche Mode had to cancel a concert in Athens Tuesday (5/12) after singer David Gahan fell ill with a bout of gastroenteritis and was taken to the hospital in the Greek capital, according to the band's publicist.
According to published reports, concert organizers told the waiting audience of approximately 20,000 fans that the DM lead singer had fallen ill in his dressing room. They suggested holding on to tickets in case the singer was well enough to reschedule the concert for today. However, concert organizers later issued an announcement saying Gahan's health would prevent the show from being immediately rescheduled.
The band's upcoming show in Istanbul also reportedly was shelved, according to a press release.
"At this stage, Dave's primary concern is to return to full health and resume the tour as soon as possible," said the press release. "Fans in Athens and Istanbul have been advised to hold onto their tickets as an announcement will be made shortly with regard to rescheduled dates or cancellation."
