Dave Matthews Band sets benefit show before album release

The Dave Matthews Band will broadcast its upcoming New York City charity concert--which takes place on the eve of the band's new record release--live on the Fuse network.

The June 1 show, which benefits DMB's Bama Works Fund supporting charitable programs in the Charlottesville, VA, area, will kick off seven days of original programming by the network focused on the group, including a four-part documentary, "Dave Matthews Band: The Road to Big Whiskey."

Meanwhile, the group continues its ongoing world tour May 27 in Darien Center, NY. The trek, which includes a two-week European swing beginning in late June, extends through early October. North American dates are shown below; the band's overseas plans can be found at the DMB website.

"Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King," due in stores June 2, marks the band's first studio set since the death of saxophonist LeRoi Moore last summer. Guitarist Tim Reynolds returned to the studio with the band for the record--his first recording with DMB since 1998's "Before These Crowded Streets."

The album, which was produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), is the follow-up to 2005's "Stand Up," the fourth consecutive Dave Matthews Band effort to enter the US album chart at No. 1.

The album's lead single, "Funny the Way It Is," is currently available through iTunes as part of an "iTunes pass"; for $19.99, fans will receive an instant download of the song right now, as well as exclusive live tracks from the band's spring and summer 2009 tours; the "Funny the Way It Is" video; b-sides and remixes; a deluxe digital booklet of the album artwork drawn by Matthews; and other DMB goodies that will be delivered to the purchaser's iTunes library as soon as they become available.

In addition to DMB members Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar), Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass) and Boyd Tinsley (violin), the group will be joined on the road by guitarist Tim Reynolds, trumpeter Rashawn Ross and saxophonist Jeff Coffin.
