Wilco expands summer tour, streams new album
Wilco has added new dates to its summer tour schedule as the band gets ready to go out and support its new studio album, which hits stores in late June.
The Chicago-based group returns from a European trip in time to launch the summer US outing a couple of weeks before the album's release, kicking things off June 12 in Cincinnati, OH. The band's current schedule takes it through late August, winding things down for now with an Aug. 23 appearance at Minnesota's 10,000 Lakes Festival. Tickets for all shows are currently on sale, and dates are included below.
"Wilco (The Album)," the band's follow-up to 2007's "Sky Blue Sky," is set to surface June 30 on the Nonesuch label. The album, which will include Wilco's first-ever official duet ("You and I," recorded with Canadian singer Feist), is currently streaming in its entirety at the group's website.
Last summer, Wilco main man Jeff Tweedy told Billboard that the still-untitled new album would feature a more studio-groomed sound than "Sky Blue Sky," and that the band will "allow ourselves a little bit more leeway in terms of sculpting the sound in the studio and doing overdubs and using the studio as another instrument. Last time around, it was more of a document."
The band is also promoting a new concert DVD during the trek, "Ashes of American Flags," which hit stores last month.
The film, which mixes concert footage with interviews, was produced and directed by Christoph Green and Fugazi's Brendan Canty, and shot in five US venues: Cain's Ballroom in Tulsa, OK; Tipitina's in New Orleans; The Mobile Civic Center in Alabama; the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville; and the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC.
