Lauryn Hill To Launch First Solo Tour, Outkast Named To Open

Lauryn Hill will begin her first solo tour on February 18th, just days before Hill learns the fate of her ten Grammy nominations. The tour will launch in Detroit, and on the night of the Grammies (2/24), Hill and opening act OutKast will be between tour stops in Missouri, making it possible to attend the awards ceremony.

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill enjoyed a particularly strong early run on the pop album chart, moving over 422,000 copies in its first week of release in August -- the highest SoundScan-reported first week's sales total for a female artist at that time. (Alanis Morissette toppled Hill's record in November when Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie sold 469,000 copies it's first week out).

Hill will be touring with a full band and DJ, and sales for shows released to date have been strong, though the pace will likely be increased by her new profile in light of her Grammy nominations. At press time, a second Los Angeles-area date had been announced for her stop at the Universal Amphitheatre in early March.

Hill will bring along Atlanta-based rappers Outkast, who earned their own Grammy nomination in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category for their single, Rosa Parks. The duo recently completed winter club tour in support of their current release, Aquemini.

The tour will play mostly large clubs and theatres, with small amphitheatres booked in several markets. Here's the current itinerary for Lauryn Hill and Outkast:
