Album Chart: Eminem nabs fifth No. 1 debut
As expected, Eminem 's "Relapse" did big business during its first week in stores, easily grabbing the top slot while leading a pack of seven new releases into the Top 10 on the US album chart.
With sales of 608,000 copies, "Relapse"--Eminem's first new studio set since 2004's "Encore"--earns the multi-platinum rapper his fifth consecutive debut atop The Billboard 200 chart. The album's first-week tally also marks the biggest sales week of the year for any album, and the best single-week showing since AC/DC's "Black Ice" moved about 784,000 copies its first week out last fall, according to Nielsen SoundScan retail data as reported by Billboard.
"Relapse" knocks Green Day 's "21st Century Breakdown," which debuted in the top slot last week, down to No. 2 on sales of 166,000 copies, and a slew of debuts follow: Kenny Chesney 's "Greatest Hits II" moved 89,000 copies to enter the chart at No. 3; Method Man & Redman 's "Blackout 2" logs on at No. 4 with 63,000 copies sold; comedian Dane Cook 's "Isolated Incident" takes No. 5 with 61,000 copies; and Busta Rhymes ' "Back on My B S" surfaces at No. 6 with 59,000 copies.
Meanwhile, the " Hannah Montana : The Movie" soundtrack, last week's No. 2 entry, drops to No. 7 with sales of 58,000 copies; and Lady GaGa's "The Fame," last week's No. 4 entry, slips to No. 8 with 45,000 copies sold.
Closing out the Top 10 are two more debuts, with Tori Amos ' "Abnormally Attracted to Sin" entering the chart at No. 9 on sales of 41,000 copies, and Kate Voegele 's "A Fine Mess" punching in at No. 10 with 37,000 copies.
