Steely Dan extends summer 'Party,' adds special gigs

Steely Dan continues to add new summer dates to the "Rent Party '09 Tour," extending the US jaunt through early September.

Since last check, 11 stops have been added to the itinerary, which kicks off June 9 in Durham, NC, and passes through 19 cities before the Sept. 6 wrap-up in Detroit.

In addition to the single-night concerts, four cities--Boston (7/22, 7/24-25); New York (7/28-29, 7/31); Universal City, CA (8/21-22, 8/24-25) and Chicago (8/31-9/1, 9/3-9/4)--will host the veteran jazz-rockers for multiple nights. These special performances, dubbed the "Classic Album (Plus)" nights, will feature one of three landmark albums ("Aja," "Gaucho" or "The Royal Scam") performed in its entirety, as well as other Steely Dan favorites. Another special performance--dubbed "Takin' It to The Seats" Internet Request Night--will allow ticketholders to vote for songs via the Internet to determine the setlist.

Further details about the schedule are below.

The legendary classic-rock outfit--centered on core members Walter Becker and Donald Fagen--will spend late June and early July on a European trek dubbed "A Left Bank Holiday," before returning to the US tour trail for a three-night run in Boston beginning July 22.

This US trek marks the fourth consecutive year that the pair has toured after avoiding consistent roadwork for several years. "Everything Must Go," the duo's most recent release, which surfaced in 2003, followed up their first studio album in 20 years, 2000's "Two Against Nature." That record not only received double-platinum certification, but also won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Though the pair was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001 for their work with Steely Dan, they also have successful solo careers. Becker released his second solo album, "Circus Money," last summer, while Fagen most recently released 2007's "The Nightfly Trilogy," a boxed set featuring his three solo albums: "The Nightfly," "Kamakiriad" and "Morph the Cat."
