Blitzen Trapper maps summer road plans
Indie-rockers Blitzen Trapper will hit the road in early July for a mid-summer headlining run while they continue to make progress on a new studio album.
The Portland, OR-based group kicks off the trek July 9 in Sacramento, CA. The 14-city outing includes a July 12 appearance at the venerable Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles opening for Jenny Lewis and Ray LaMontagne, and concludes with an early August headlining slot at the Pickathon 2009 indie roots music festival in rural Oregon. Dates are below.
The band continues to support "Furr," the six-member group's fourth studio record and follow-up to 2007's critically lauded "Wild Mountain Nation." The more recent effort, which hit stores last September, was recorded at the group's studio inside Sally Mack's School of Dance near downtown Portland, and produced by guitarist/vocalist Eric Earley.
Meanwhile, the band continues to make progress in the recording studio on the follow-up to "Furr."
"There's country. There's hard-rock stuff. There's some piano ballads with strings," Earley said during a recent interview with LiveDaily. "It's hard for me to [compare it to the rest of the catalog] because I have a lot of different things going on. There's rock and folk music, so the new record will be like that. We'll see."
Earley said the band is halfway through the new album, which is being co-produced by Earley and "Furr" engineer Mike Coykendall. The group isn't currently pondering a release date for the set, which Earley said might not surface this year.
