Eminem, Jay-Z contribute to 'DJ Hero' game
With new albums from both either in the bag or on the horizon, Jay-Z and Eminem announced their involvement with the forthcoming video game "DJ Hero," due out this fall.
The video game--an offshoot of the $2 billon "Guitar Hero" franchise--will feature the two heavy-hitters as MCs, while players use a turntable-shaped controller to follow along with featured songs.
Jay-Z, who is currently at work on "Blueprint 3," plans to include "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" and "Dirt Off Your Shoulder," according to USA Today, along with other yet-to-announced tracks.
Eminem, who has remained mum on his exact musical contributions to the game, topped the charts earlier this week with his new album, "Relapse," which surfaced earlier this month. The record marked the rapper's first new studio album since 2004's "Encore."
"I have a ton of content," Jay-Z told the newspaper. "I just need the pipeline. I love the freedom of 'DJ Hero.' I could wake up tomorrow morning with the idea for a song and call the guys at Activision and start working on getting it out."
The two award-winning musicians will serve as consultants to Activision and FreeStyle Games, the game's developer.
"This is a game I can see myself actually playing," Eminem said to USA Today. "DJ'ing is fundamental to rap music, so it's a great fit."
"DJ Hero" will span multiple genres, including soul, pop/rock, electronica and hip-hop. The game will feature more than 100 songs from 80 artists, including 50 Cent, Beastie Boys, Blondie, N.E.R.D., Gorillaz, David Bowie, DJ Shadow and DJ AM, among others.
USA Today also reported that a special edition of the game will come with the rappers' exclusive new greatest-hits CDs, along with gaming extras such as advanced controllers and a DJ stand. No word yet on when those sets will be available.
