New Pearl Jam album on Target

Pearl Jam recently filmed a live performance in Seattle for its new, exclusive retail relationship with Target stores, according to a Billboard report.

The band's manager, Kelly Curtis, confirmed that Eddie Vedder and bandmates have inked a deal with the big-box retailer to sell its upcoming album, which is currently scheduled for an early fall release.

The band, which after 18 years is no longer under contract to Sony-affiliated labels, will debut its new CD without the backing of a US record company. Instead, the band is negotiating deals with a consortium of partners including Target, an online retailer, a mobile partner, a gaming company and possibly a network of indie retail stores. Curtis told Billboard that the band decided to sign with Target because the company agreed to let other partners come on-board for the album's distribution.

News of the Target deal began to surface last week after the band recorded several songs at Seattle's Showbox theater under the direction of Cameron Crowe. Curtis said that in addition to the Target commercial, some of the footage could be used for a project that Crowe is working on in connection to the band's 20th anniversary.

Curtis also confirmed in his exclusive interview with Billboard that the band plans to mount a tour in support of the new release and that the album will be released internationally via Universal Music Group.

In related news, Pearl Jam debuted one song from its upcoming album last night on the first episode of "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien."
