Xavier Rudd takes 'Blue' on summer-long road trip
Singer and multi-instrumentalist Xavier Rudd has lined up an extensive summer tour schedule for North American fans as he continues to support last year's "Dark Shades of Blue."
The Australian "one man band" kicks off the outing June 18 in Houston, and will hit more than 45 cities on the trip, which runs until the end of August, including more than three weeks on the road in Canada. Dates are below.
Rudd's eighth album, "Dark Shades of Blue," surfaced last August. The performer said in his online bio that the album is a "darker" effort than previous albums.
"Even though it's a darker album," Rudd said, "I think there is a lot of sunshine in the record. There's brightness in the instruments, tonally, and I can hear the humidity in the didgeridoos, and in the guitar. I can hear that humidity, the warmth of the climate in Byron Bay.
"There are a few different moods that come through it. There were a few different personal bridges I crossed last year, in terms of my family history," he added. "There's a well-rounded emotional landscape to the songwriting, and down to the production of the album--I think we pulled it off."
"Dark Shades" follows 2007's "White Moth," which was co-produced by Rudd and Dave Ogilvie (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson). That album reached No. 30 on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart and No. 13 on the Top Heatseekers chart.
