Aimee Mann readies for October tour dates

Aimee Mann has unveiled a new leg of tour dates in support of her album “Bachelor No. 2.” The seven-date run gets underway on Oct. 13 in Minnesota, and includes one stop that will feature singer-songwriter Michael Penn, Mann’s husband.

The itinerary routes from Minnesota to Wisconsin, followed by a two-night stand in Chicago. Mann and Penn are then set to share the stage at Harper College in Illinois on Oct. 19 before Mann splits off to handle two shows in Ohio solo. Mann and Penn toured together extensively earlier this year. Penn released his most recent disc--“MP4 (Days Since a Lost Time Accident)”--in February.

“Bachelor No. 2” was released in March. The album marks Mann’s first release on her recently developed Superego record label, which she formed after various record company shake-ups in recent years left her shuffling from one label to the next. The album has met with critical acclaim, and has been buoyed by similar accolades for her work on last year’s “Magnolia” soundtrack, which included her Oscar-nominated song “Save Me.”

Meanwhile, Universal--parent company of Interscope, the label that recently dropped Mann--hopes to cash in on its former artist’s recent popularity with last month’s release of “Ultimate Collection,” a compilation disc that features some of Mann’s previously released work, as well as B-sides and covers.

Mann is best known for her song “Voices Carry,” which was a hit in the ‘80s during her stint as lead-singer for ‘Til Tuesday.
