Promoter: Michael Jackson to perform all 50 London shows
Though the rumor mill is claiming Michael Jackson will only go through with 10 of his 50 scheduled London shows, promoter AEG Live says the full concert itinerary is indeed still a go.
Britain's The Sun tabloid reported Tuesday (6/2) that the pop icon has complained about the 50-date schedule to fans outside his London rehearsal space, explaining that he would be scaling back to just 10 performances before taking the show on the road.
"This is not true," AEG Live President and CEO Randy Phillips said yesterday (6/3) in a prepared statement. "Michael Jackson was thrilled at selling 50 shows. The size and scale of this show would not be possible without an extended run, which Michael has been fully on board with from the very beginning. He has not agreed to a world tour at this point, however, he can at any time."
The ambitious stand at London's O2 Arena--all 50 shows for which sold out within minutes of tickets becoming available--kicks of July 13. The initial four dates were postponed so that Jackson could have more time for dress rehearsals. Details for the shows are available at MichaelJacksonLive.com.
Other rumors surrounding Jackson have emerged lately, namely the claim that the 50-year-old has recently been diagnosed with skin cancer. Last month, a spokesperson for the performer denied the report to the New York Daily News, insisting "he's in perfect health ... he doesn't have any diseases whatsoever."
