David Cook continues roadwork behind debut album

In the wake of losing his older brother to cancer, David Cook will return to the road for a late-spring and summer run behind his self-titled debut, which hit shelves last fall.

The season seven "American Idol" winner, who finished an early spring outing late last month, will kick off the new round of dates June 18 in Del Mar, CA. The 34-city trek stops by a mix of state fairs, festivals and intimate clubs through mid-October. Details are included below.

Cook set a record for debut entries last spring with 11 songs entering the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Digital Songs just one week after winning the title of "American Idol." The performer has already received platinum certification for his self-titled debut, which was produced by Grammy-winner Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Kid Rock) and features 13 tracks, nine of which Cook co-wrote with established songwriters such as Chris Cornell and Brian Howes.

Cook made an appearance on the season finale of season eight's "American Idol," performing "Permanent," a track from his recent release. The live "Idol" version of the single is now available on iTunes, with proceeds from the sale going to Washington, DC-based charity Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.

"Being a year removed from the whole thing and as busy as I've been, I was just excited to not be the newbie anymore," Cook said of the most recent season of "American Idol" during an interview with the New York Post. "It was cool this year to see [new 'American Idol' winner] Kris Allen's reaction. I completely empathize with that--just utter shock."
