Ted Nugent honored by NRA

Ted Nugent recently was honored by the National Rifle Association for his longtime support of the right to bear arms. The NRA presented the rocker with the 2009 "Defender of Freedom Award" May 16 during the 138th Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Phoenix, AZ, according to a press release. According to the inscription on the award, Nugent was singled out for his support the US Constitution and The Bill of Rights without regard to his career or the fear of criticism.

In other news, the Motor City Madman will release June 30 a new live DVD and Blu-ray disc that documents his 6,000th live performance. "Motor City Mayhem," recorded July 4, 2008, at the DTE Energy Music Theater in Nuge's hometown of Detroit, features guest appearances and a set list that highlights the guitarist's blues and soul roots.

Later in the summer, Nugent will share his "wilderness skills" on a new CMT television series, "Runnin' Wild ... From Ted Nugent."
