Black Crowes line up fall dates ahead of 'Frost'
The Black Crowes will surge into fall with a huge clutch of new live dates behind the band's forthcoming new studio album, "Before the Frost ...."
The rootsy rockers continue their latest outing June 18 in Hampton Beach, NH. After capping the tour's current leg in late July, the group will take a short breather before resuming the trek Aug. 25 in Vienna, VA, and continuing on into early October. Details are included below.
Additional information, including opening acts and on-sale dates for the newly added shows, is posted at The Black Crowes' website.
"Before the Frost ...," recorded in front of an intimate audience over five nights at Levon Helm's Barn in Woodstock, NY, follows up on last year's "Warpaint," which was the group's first album of new material in seven years. Produced by Paul Stacey, the new set features 11 original tracks, and is due in stores Sept. 1.
Fans who purchase "Frost ..." will be given a download code for a free companion live album, "... Until the Freeze," which packages eight new cuts with a cover of Stephen Stills' "So Many Times."
"I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence," the group's frontman, Chris Robinson, said in a press statement. "Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before."
The group--made up of brothers Rich Robinson (guitar) and Chris Robinson (vocals), along with longtime drummer Steve Gorman, Sven Pipien (bass) and more recent additions Adam MacDougall (keyboards) and Luther Dickinson (guitar)--returned from a long recording hiatus to release a new album titled "Warpaint" last year.
The band took a four-year hiatus following its previous studio set, 2001's "Lions," but returned to the live stage in 2005 with seven sold-out shows at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. Since then, the band has toured extensively.
