Pearl Jam debuts a record five albums in the top 200
Five of Pearl Jam ’s live “bootleg” albums will debut on the Billboard 200 next week, setting a record for the most simultaneous debuts on the album chart, according to Billboard and Epic Records. Selena and Prince shared the previous record of four simultaneous album debuts.
Retailers began selling 25 2-CD live albums recorded during Pearl Jam’s European tour on Sept. 26, a few weeks after the band began to sell the albums through its website.
Next week’s charting albums will include "Katowice, Poland 6/16" at No. 103, "Milan, Italy 6/22" at No. 125, "Verona, Italy 6/20" at No. 134, "London, England 5/30" at No. 137, and "Hamburg, Germany 6/26" at No. 175. Combined sales totals for the five titles topped 54,000 copies.
Two of Pearl Jam ’s other new releases, "Manchester, England 6/4" and "Cardiff, Wales 6/6," fell short of charting by less than 1,000 copies, according to Billboard.
The record for the most titles on Billboard’s album chart in a single week is seven, according to the magazine. That mark is shared by the Beatles, the Monkees and U2.
Pearl Jam recently announced plans to release recordings of each of the 46 shows on the band's current North American tour.
