Queensryche sets summer/fall slate behind 'American Soldier'

With its spring tour recently completed, Queensryche has extended its roadwork into the summer and fall behind the band's March release, "American Soldier."

After a nearly two-month break, the prog-metal outfit will return to the tour trail July 22 in Wilmington, DE, for a weeklong East Coast stint, followed by a couple one-off performances in August and September. Following another two-month hiatus, the band will push through 14 club and theater performances beginning Oct. 28 in Columbus, OH, and finishing Nov. 12 in Atlanta. Details are shown below.

"American Soldier," the group's 12th studio set, was inspired by singer/songwriter Geoff Tate's interviews with veterans of World War II through Iraq, and "envisions war through the eyes of a soldier," according to the band's website. The record, which follows up 2007's "Take Cover," debuted at No. 25 on the Billboard 200 when it surfaced in late March.

In celebration of the album, Queensryche is asking all service men and women with concert tickets and a military I.D. go to the front of the line at participating venues throughout the tour. The band's website lists the participating cities with further instructions.

This outing will be Queensryche's first since the departure of second guitarist Mike Stone, who left the group in February after a decade with the band. Stone, who signed on following the amicable departure of second guitarist Kelly Gray in 1999, left Queensryche to concentrate on his new musical project, Speed X, which also features Nick Cantanese of Black Label Society.
